A couple months ago, I crashed my 1.8T GTI. A few weeks later,I replaced it with a Silverstone Gray VR6 GTI. Last night, I was digging through my phone and came across this picture that I took sometime last fall. On the left is the car I crashed. On the right is the very car I replaced it with. What are the fucking odds?

How do you like your Mk4? I'm looking to make the VW jump and I just may start there.

Hardly. The VR6 is very nice, but the 1.8T was so much faster. I really wish I had been able to find a nice 20AE/337 in the area.

No clue. I just happened to snap the pic because lol GTI buddies, and I bought the VR6 from a dealership, so total coincidence.

I was just kidding. I used to have a B5 A4 with that engine. It was fun but a pain to maintain.

I didn't have too much major go wrong with mine, and that 1.8 was seriously abused. It seems to be really hit or miss with those engines. Still, with the mods I had on mine, it was silly fast for a decade old crapcan.

It depended almost entirely on the owner. Also, in my situation, mine had a lower oil capacity due to engine orientation, so it was highly prone to sludging.

I'm on my third (first was an '02 Beetle 2.slow), so that kinda tells you what I think of them. It's certainly not for everyone though, and they can be pretty hit or miss reliability wise, but as long as you're very thorough with your research you should be fine. My advice is go drive a few, see if you like 'em, and never buy one with any pre-existing conditions, because they'll just snowball.

Nice. I'll take a look and see what I can find. Thanks!
